ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate iron deposition level in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and its correlation with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) imaging markers. Methods A total of 74 patients with first-ever transient ischemic attack (TIA) (median age:69 years old;30 males,44 females) and 77 patients with positive ischemic stroke history (median age:72 years old;43 males,34 females) were studied retrospectively. On phase image of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI),regions of interest (ROIs) were manually drawn at the bilateral head of the caudate nucleus (CN),lenticular nucleus (LN),thalamus (TH),frontal white matter (FWM),and occipital white matter (OWM).The correlation between iron deposition level and the clinical and imaging variables was also investigated. Results Iron deposition level at LN was significantly higher in patients with previous stroke history (P < 0.05).It was linearly correlated with the presence and number of cerebral microbleed (CMB) but not with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and lacunar infarct. Conclusions Ischemia may cause iron deposition elevation at basal ganglia, and LN may be more susceptible to ischemia-induced alteration.CMB may be an independent risk factor for higher iron deposition.

ABSTRACT

Ischemic cerebrovascular disease is a common and frequently occurring disease in the elderly. It has the characteristics of high disability rate, high mortality rate, and high recurrence rate, which seriously threatens the life and health of the elderly. At present, clinical diagnosis and evaluation are mainly based on medical history, neurological symptoms and signs and imaging examination. The incidence of ischemic cerebrovascular disease is rapid, the existing diagnostic methods have different degrees of hysteresis and limitations in the diagnosis time.Related clinical study found that in the process of ischemic cerebrovascular disease accompanied by serum S-100 beta, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9)-related indicators of change. This article reviews the recent progress of S-100 beta and MMP-9 in ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between the matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3)and the stability of carotid artery plaque, and explore MMP-3's prediction role on the attack and relapse of acute ischemic cerebrovascular events. Methods 100 patients with the first ever acute cerebral infarction,100 patients with chronic cerebral circulation insufficiency(CCCI)and 40 persons without cerebrovascular diseases were enrolled in this study.According to the carotid ultrasound examination,100 cerebral infarction patients were divided into three subgroup: unstable plaque group(45 patients, mixed plaque, soft plaque),stable plaque group(35 patients, plaque Group)and endometrial coarse group(25patients).Matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3)levels of all the subjects were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(as basal level). All the subjects were followed up for one year to observe cerebral infarction events.Serum MMP-3 levels of each group, and the basic serum MMP-3 levels were compared among patients who were attacked or relapsed cerebral ischemic with those who had not been attack cerebral ischemic during this period of time. Results 5 patients in the cerebral infarction group had relapse (5%),2 patients in the CCCI group were attacked by cerebral ischemic(2%),and no one in the normal control group was attacked by cerebral ischemic.Serum MMP-3 levels in the acute cerebral infarction group were significantly higher than CCCI group, and both groups were significantly higher than normal control group (P <0.05).The basic serum MMP-3 levels in all patients who were attacked by cerebral ischemic were significantly higher than those who had not been attack by cerebral ischemic during this period of time(P <0.05).The serum MMP-3 levels of the unstable plaque group were significantly higher than stable plaque group. And both groups were significantly higher than endometrial coarse group(P <0.05).Conclusions Elevated levels of matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3)might have something with the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque, and participate the attack and the relapse of acute cerebral infarction.Determination of MMP-3 might be used to predict the attack and relapse of acute cerebral infarction.

ABSTRACT

Objective In this study we investigated the expression and protective mechanisms of Hsp22 and VEGF in brain tissue following cerebral ischemic reperfusion in gerbils and whether they are correlative. Method Forty five gerbils were randomly divided into there groups: Normal Group (n =5) ,Sham-operated Group and Ischemia-Reperfusion Group (I/R). Sham-operated Group and I/R Group were divided into four subgroups (each group has five animals) : 6 hours group, lday group, 3days group, 7days group. Histological analysis of tissue injury was carried out by staining with haematoxylin and eosin haematoxylin and eosin (HE). Result The tissues of normal group and sham-operated group was integrated, but that of I/R were changed with gliocyte hyperplasia and hypertrophia, interstitial edema, cellular edema, gliocyte and neuron edema , neuron necrosis. The data presented here provided a positive correlation between expression of Hsp22 and VEGF. Conelusions There was a positive correlation between expression of Hsp22 and VEGF after gerbils brain I/R injury.
